    @ 6:51 in concentric type winding, If HV winding is placed near core more insulation will be needed. Moreover if LV winding is placed over the HV winding,how can we provide tappings on HV side? In LV winding,the current is more and hence it is not preferable to make tappings on LV side.

    However, it is very important to note that HV winding is placed over the LV winding, because insulation between the core and LV winding will be less.

    Why are the primary windings wired in delta but the secondary windings in star (wye) configuration?

    • @chrvoje_engineering
      @chrvoje_engineering  Месяц назад

      Primary is delta-connected to provide a path for third harmonic currents, ensuring induced potentials remain sinusoidal and avoiding distortion

    Very informative, yesterday my district transformer got burned due to the lockdown and poor maintenance
    Now I think the oil must have dried out 🤔

      Probably, transformer are complex machines, but very interesting... Also oil must be regular checked, filled if necessary....

    For the transformer core why not using solid core?

    • @Resonosity
      @Resonosity 2 года назад

      Eddy current loss. If the core is solid, then larger eddy currents can occur in the greater cross sections of the core, leading to more core losses. If you laminate the core into multiple slices, then the boundaries at the edges of every 2 laminations prevent (or tries to prevent) eddy currents from getting too large. Hence less core losses.
      You'll notice too that this video goes over standard designs for transformers as they're used today - everything is designed for better efficiency. More simple designs and models dating back to the invention of AC electricity in the 1800s might better explain the rudimentary workings of transformers, leading viewers to naturally conclude that improvements can be made: a bottom-up approach to teaching.
      A video like this one, and many others on YT, instead teaches with a top-down approach: demonstrate the most complex yet realistic designs and models of transformers today to decipher working principles. Not necessarily a criticism against the OP, but rather that for beginners other videos might be better.
